Designing a soccer kit with INARIA
Well, the title says it all...
But, this month, I participated in the Carlsberg Derby and represented the King West neighbourhood. The concept? 5 neighbourhoods. 1 soccer tournament.
A huge part of my life was spent on the pitch, both as a player and a coach, so the opportunity to design my own kit was unreal. Here's a little bit more about the process with INARIA:
To me, King West is a vibrant, young neighbourhood that never stops. There's nightlife, restaurants, businesses... essentially, I feel like there's something for everyone. When I was tasked with coming up with a concept, I knew I'd want to convey the hustle and diversity of the neighbourhood, despite the 'douchey' reputation it has (let's be honest, you were thinking it lol).
V neck collar with raglan sleeves, 1x1 engineered rib sleeve cuffs
Main body is a specialty fabric called 37.5 Technology – it’s the fastest drying fabric in soccer, increasing performance by keeping the body at ideal level (37.5 degrees). For soccer players out there, that just means that your body can use less energy on cooling itself and more on the game.
All-over sublimation pattern features the repeating D/N graphic. The D/N represents how King West is a day and night neighbourhood. It's always on the go and I thought the black on black would be slick, regal and minimal.
Sleeve Carlsberg patch – in tonal TPU w/ metallic frame
Sleeve D/N Patch – matte black premium plus vinyl
Main crest/sponsor/number/name bar/counter culture logo hit in electric charcoal – a polished novelty vinyl
What's even cooler is that everything was designed, cut and applied here in Toronto.
