The importance of a nighttime routine

Basically, I focus my energy on all the wonderful Counter Culture creators, our clients (we run programs nation-wide) and Marley and Callie... and sometimes (read: most of the time), I forget about myself.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE my job and all the people I get to meet along the way. I’m just saying, it’s also important for me to learn how to take time for myself so I can better serve those around me.

If I’m being totally honest, I’m a slave to the notifications, so I find it hard to completely disconnect. The one thing that I can commit to is a nighttime routine. Here it is:

  1. Workout: after work, I usually like to sweat for 45-60 mins. Thanks to Totum, I’ve found teachers and classes I love that I can commit to

  2. Turn phone off: this is your time, so close the screen. I never sleep with my phone on my nightstand anymore and I close it as of 9 PM and (try!) to only open it at 9 AM

  3. Take a shower: wash the day off. If I’m really feeling ~luxe~ I’ll add a couple drops of eucalyptus oil to the steam at the bottom of the shower and it smells amazing

  4. Once in bed, turn on a diffuser: I use this one and usually use the Dusk blend - lavender, eucalyptus, ho wood, frankincense I mean… can’t go wrong!

  5. Breathe deeply: find an app or just a breathing pattern or exercise that works for you. I’ve taken classes and apply them in my every day life. Love dragon breath, actually

  6. For some added sleepy goodness, I roll on the sleep roll-on to my temples and wrists

Voilà! It’s simple, but effective. Between the sweat sessions and yummy essential oils, I’ve never slept better.

Bonne nuit xx
